I promise I’m not obsessed with door decor, but it sure seems like I am. Our previous posts for a burlap bubble wreath and ribbon wreath tutorials might make one think differently!

I am not a huge fan of Halloween decorations, but I LOVE my front door right now. I took down my Fall wreath which you can see here. Normally I’d just leave it up for the whole month of October and November, but this year is different. My BOO sign is just too sparkly and fun. There are very few items needed for this and I was able to whip it up in about 20 minutes – the longest part was waiting for the spray paint to dry!boo Halloween door sign www.thepinningmama.com

Supplies Needed:

  • Thin, lightweight wooden letters found at your local craft store
  • Black spray paint
  • Black glitter
  • Orange ribbon
  • Stapler
  • Clear protective spray (optional)

How to:

Once you buy your letters, lay them out and start spraying with your spray paint. I preferred spraying half a letter at a time and would glitter that half. My spray paint basically acted like a glue for my glitter. Then, spray the other half and sprinkle with glitter. Be generous with the glitter! You can just dump the access off and back into your glitter container. Just like in 1st grade.

Now that your letters are sprayed, glittered and dry you may want to spray again with a clear protective spray. I did this just to make sure my glitter doesnt go anywhere. Dry.

Wrap two letters at a time with ribbon and staple the ends of the ribbon. Make sure the ends are on the back of the letters! So, the B and O will be connected and the O and O will be. Take some extra ribbon {I prefer wired} and tie some to the top of the B to use as a hanger on your door. boo Halloween door sign www.thepinningmama.com

Since I don’t like scarey, the glitter made me smile. :) Your Halloween decor may have inspired me to go a little scarey though!!

Your door is way too fabulous!! Watch the neighbors try to keep up! I love it!

Ashley September 9, 2013, 10:18 am

Aw, thanks Amy! Haha Im pretty sure they thought I was nuts when they saw me put it outside in August to take pictures. :) It’ll be really fabulous when I open the door to hand out candy wearing a fascinator!

I’m with you – I’m not much for Halloween decor and not much for the spooky stuff, either. I’m am pretty crazy about glitter though so your glitter has my grinning! I love how your peep-hole is in the middle of the “O” too – that’s great for a BOO! sign. (As in Peek-a-BOO)

Ashley September 15, 2013, 6:52 am

I actually didn’t even notice the peephole but now that I do, you’re right!!

Dumb question, but how do you get the sign to adhere to the door? I see the ribbon going up and over, but what do you have on the other side to attach it to?

Ashley September 15, 2013, 6:50 am

Thats not a dumb question! I used a wreath hanger as well as some tape behind the middle letter. Is this what you mean?

I just found your blog through Pinterest. What a great idea. This is a perfect craft that my 7 year can do almost all on her own. My husband HATES glitter, but I can get around it by spray painting it at the end like you suggested. Win-Win. Thanks for the tutorial.

Love this! Question~~~how much glitter is falling on the ground? Is the spray paint really making the glitter stick well? If so, I might want to do an indoor project like this!!

Wendy September 13, 2014, 7:56 pm

can you post the link for the glitter, limited stores here and sell no black glitter.
