We are in the Christmas season full swing over here! I have {mostly} decorated the house, we have been to 3 Christmas parties, seen Santa twice, and eaten a few too many cookies. But just FINALLY this weekend I managed to get my door decorated for Christmas with this easy and fantastically sparkly NOEL sign.  A huge thank you to Recollections Glitter and Michaels for inspiring me to make this sign and sponsoring this post.

I am all about a gorgeous Christmas wreath, but we have a fairly huge door and it is already a clay red color, compliments of the previous owners, so a wreath just isn’t ideal for my door, or a wreath the size I would need isn’t ideal for my budget. Either way, I couldn’t be happier with my gold glittered Noel sign decorating my door.

Ashley made a fabulous BOO sign to adorn her door this Halloween, and it inspired me to use the same beautiful technique to make a Christmas sign for my door. I thought about using joy, but, as I mentioned my door is HUGE so I wanted to take up some space and so Noel won.

This was a simple project that makes a HUGE impact!  Every time I see my front door as I am pulling in or out of the driveway I stop and ogle it a bit!  I know, I know… but the sparkles just catch the light and make it really terrific. The secret to this craft is absolutely the glitter.  I have fallen head over heels in love with Recollections Glitter.  I love glitter and take my word for it, this is the best.  It is available at Michaels in so many colors and textures. You can get everything from fine to chunky and even really unique textures like tinsel!  They start at $3.99 and an be purchased individually or in collections {I am a sucker for the multi packs!} This is some of the most beautiful glitter you will ever see. No lie, it is so eye catching I have actually has people ask me what I used.

So let’s get to it!

What you need for this project:

Letters to spell NOEL or your Christmas word of choice- mine are 13″ tall

Recollections fine glitter in gold

Modge Podge or Elmer’s glue

White satin ribbon in 7/8 in and 1 1/2 in

Glue gun and glue sticks

First, lay out your letters and spread a generous layer of Modge Podge or Elmer’s glue on each letter.  This is such an easy project you can even let your 3 year old help like I did.  He always wants to help with “Mommy’s projects.”  You can also see how Ashley used spray paint to glitter her letters here.

Next sprinkle a generous layer of Recollections glitter over the letter and let dry.

Once the letter is dry, shake the excess off over a paper and pour the extra back into the container.

Next cut about 2-3″ of your 7/8″ ribbon to put between each letter and align them with your sign. and a 6-8″ piece to hang your sign.

Use your glue gun to attach each ribbon between the letters making sure that you center the ribbon so that it will hang straight.

Make a big bow out of the 1 1/2 in ribbon to glue at the top covering where the ribbon hanging the top letter joins with the loop to hang the letter.

Hang your NOEL sign on your door using a wreath hanger.

See easy as promised!  You know I won’t have it any other way.  Make sure and check out all of our other Christmas projects here.
