This homemade Greek Seasoning is a winner all around. It is crazy delicious for everyday, and also Whole30 compliant, Paleo, gluten free and dairy free, which makes it perfect to use for special diets!
I might have said this before on my homemade Fajita Seasoning or Whole30 Ranch Seasoning posts, but I have to say it again. Although we don’t eat on a specific diet regularly, of all the things I prepped, ate, modified and tried while doing the Whole30 food challenge, the homemade seasonings were my favorite. Since Greek seasoning is a staple in my kitchen but filled with many extras that were not okay while following the diet, I had to reverse engineer a bit and create something that I could use in its place. It won our hearts (via our stomachs) for good!
My homemade Greek seasoning recipe ended up having 13 ingredients and is now a staple in our home and used often even long after our Whole30 days are over! There are quite a few seasonings in this mix, but the flavor that comes out is unique and bold in the best way. As a bonus, it is not only much healthier to make from scratch, but also much more affordable, especially when you start to use it as much as we have.
Ways to Use Homemade Greek Seasoning
- As a dry rub on chicken
- Mixed with mayo, greek yogurt or olive oil as a marinade for meat
- Drizzle veggies with olive oil and then sprinkle with seasoning
- To flavor chicken salad (recipe coming soon!)
- As a dip- Mix 1 tablespoon of mix with one cup of mayo (homemade if on Whole30)
- To season french fries or potato chips – Either fresh out of the frier or made in the oven
- On corn on the cob (especially with butter, but that is not Whole30!)
- Mixed with a little olive oil and lemon to dress a salad
- Mixed with red wine vinegar and olive oil for a more traditional style greek vinaigrette
There are so many more ways! The seasoning is so delicious, and maybe a little addicting, I would find some very inventive ways to incorporate it into our meals. Even after we finished Whole30 we continued to make and use homemade seasonings. We figured we liked the taste even better than what we had bought, plus it was healthier and less expensive. The only commitment is the few extra minutes it takes to mix together.
How to Make Homemade Greek Seasoning
Making your greek seasoning is very simple, it just takes a few minutes to measure all of the spices in the mix. Collect them all and measure them into a small/medium sized bowl. Mix to combine the spices evenly and then pour in a pint sized mason jar or other air tight container. Give the container a shake to remix everything before each use.
That is all there is to it, and now you have a stash on hand to season anything (or everything) around the kitchen. This recipe also doubles/triples/quadruples well to make larger batches. Just remember that since the seasonings are different sizes and weights it will settle, so give it a mix each time you use it so that everything is evenly distributed.
If you have a favorite way you use this seasoning I would love to hear it in the comments! Reader comments make my day!
