Montréal Canada is a beautiful city with a gorgeous skyline. There is plenty to see and do with kids. Our days were a mixture of discovering their culture and eating our way thought the city. The kids loved every minute of our vacation and it definitely was a spring break to remember. After lots of research before we left I felt a little overwhelmed by how much we could do. You will find a list of family friendly activities to help you form your itinerary.
Make sure you pack your walking shoes because Montréal is a lot like NYC in that you will walk a fair amount. There is so much to look at that our kids never complained or got bored while we were walking. They’re Metro system is also much cleaner than most I’ve been to and is very straight forward and easy to follow. The majority of Montréal speaks French but almost everyone we came across also spoke English. Making it easy to ask questions or order food.
Things to do with Kids in Montréal
Activities that cost money
- Riding the Metro– Riding any public transportation is a fun activity for kids but the Metro underground is a whole new level of fun. Each metro station in Montréal is decorated differently so seeing each stop is fun. You can also get a 3 day unlimited pass for $10, and kids are free. This makes traveling around fairly inexpensive.
- iSaute: center de trampoline– I think this place was one of the most memorable on our trip for my kids. It’s a great way to jump off some energy with the family. We went on a Monday night and they had a special for families. This place is super clean and the staff is friendly. I loved jumping and flipping around with my kids.
- Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcon– This place offers lots of fun hands on exhibits for kids. Everything is in English and French to accommodate those that visit. They also have a great dome theater to watch a real life space movie and learn how the Moon was formed long ago. Sit back relax and enjoy this amazing video about our solar system.
- Insectarium- Nous les Insectes– The insectarium was filled with thousands of different insects, bugs, and butterflies. Most things in this museum were dead but preserved in beautiful cases so we could learn about all the different insects in the world. I never knew there were so many different kinds.
- Botanical Gardens, Butterly Preserve– The Botanical Gardens offers 10 different greenhouses full of flowers, plants and trees from all over the world. You also learns and see which trees most of our spices come from. I felt like I was on a little tropical getaway the I was here. The colors were so vibrant and the smells were so appealing. The very last greenhouse is the largest greenhouse and it is filled with butterflies. Some of the most beautiful butterflies I have ever seen. They often land on you and you feel like you have stepped into somewhere magical.
- Olympic Park, the Observatory– Once the place that hosted the summer olympics. This iconic structure is seen form all over Montréal. Take a ride all the way to the top and enjoy the view of Montréal.
- Biodôme– This structure is home to over 4500 animals. This is definitely not like any other zoo you’ve been too. Each animal lives in it’s own ecosystem which helps you feel like you’re in the place where the animal originates from. Do not miss this amazing place.
Activities that are free
- Saint Josephs Oratory – Make your way up the steps to this beautiful Church. Once inside you will find beautiful stained class windows and the most gorgeous pipes for an organ. This church also features beautiful botanical gardens and a museum about the Oratory.
- Basilica Notre-Dame de Montréal– With vibrant colors, gold leaf paint, a spiral staircase and tons of stained glass windows this church is a site to see. Built in 1865 this church is full of history and religious symbolism.
I love traveling all over the world and experiencing different cultures. Montréal was a very fun and exciting place to visit. I would suggest going in the spring or summer when the flowers are in full bloom and it’s a little warmer. We went in the early spring and it was a little chilly but it made for great memories. I can only imagine this place in full bloom.
