When I first saw this burlap wreath on Etsy I almost bought it. The price tag just seemed a little much and since I can be crafty when I feel like it, I figured I could find a tutorial somewhere…PINTEREST. Over at Laugh, Love and Craft you’ll see their version of this bubble burlap wreath. Looks easy, right? Good news. It is! With little effort and time, you too can have an equally cute wreath. I like this wreath because you can change it with the seasons if you want. Or you could just as easily leave it the natural looking burlap wreath and hang with another piece of burlap.
Where do you like to hang your wreaths? I don’t think wreaths are just for doors – I like hanging them on doors inside the house along with windows. For a while I even hung one on the front of our china cabinet.
Burlap Bubble Wreath
- 14 inch styrofoam wreath form. You can use green or white; whatever you can find.
- 2 yards of burlap (I used a natural color, but any color will work)
- Pack of 100 ball head pins
- Embellishments (optional)
I suggest cutting one long strip of burlap so that you can wrap your entire wreath. If you’re hanging your wreath on a door you could probably skip wrapping it, but what if it’s windy? You don’t want a nekkid wreath back, riiiiight? Â If you do wrap it, just secure the ends with a pin.
Next, grab some super sharp scissors and start cutting out 4×4 inch burlap squares. This is not exact and if you want bigger bubbles cut bigger squares. I cut out 100 and had a few extra. You will be shocked at how messy burlap is! I was wearing black pants and looked like I’d just shaved my baby boy’s hair all off. So many little blonde fuzzies. Ick! Good thing I was cutting on my light colored rug. Kept me from having to vacuum for another day…
Now that you have fuzzy stuff all over and your burlap squares cut, you’re going to start folding your squares. You’ll fold the opposite corners into each other and then the other two corners together to form the bubble on top.
Then you push your pin through each corner and stick it into your wreath. Continue doing this and make sure you’re covering the pins. You may need to adjust your bubbles as you do this. Above are some pics that will hopefully help. Like I said up above, you can hang it as is with a piece of pretty fabric or add a wooden letter initial and some flowers. Customize it as much as you’d like.  Here is the original burlap bubble wreath pin if you want to look at her tutorial again.
Tada! Finished product in very little time. I really want to make this with red burlap for the wreath and then natural flowers like the original one I found. I think it would be darling around the holidays. If you make one, please share it with us!Â
How much did we like this project/recipe/tutorial etc? This was great! Laugh, Love and Craft did a great job with pics and descriptions.
Did anything unexpected happen? Don’t cut burlap while wearing black pants.
Overall Rating from 1-5:Â You all know how I feel about finishing crafts during nap time, so you can guess what I’ll say. I give this a 5. I started and finished this during nap time AND I saved money. This project was less than $15. The inspiration wreath was $45! No thank you. Don’t get me wrong, the Etsy seller does great work, but I’m so happy I was able to do this myself.
