Sometimes winter can be long and we all can fall into a little depression. I’ve compiled a bucket list of winter activities for your family to enjoy and get out of the rut after the Holidays are over. Some of this list includes Christmas activities but a lot of these can be enjoyed all winter long.
Winter Bucket List
- Sledding- If you’ve never gone sledding this activity is must. Bring out your inner childhood as you glide down the hill.
- Build a Gingerbread House- This is one of my kids favorite activities. I love seeing the creativity come out as they’re building their house.
- Ice Skating Outdoor or Indoors- If you can find an outdoor skating rink this is the best option especially if its snowing. We happened to go on the first snowfall of the season.
- Build a Snowman- What a magical way to enjoy the snowfall as you create your own Frosty the Snowman.
- See the Nutcracker- If you’ve never seen the Nutcracker this is a must on your bucket list.
- Donate Toys- As you prepare for Christmas, have your kids go though their toys and donate to those less fortunate. You could also set aside money and buy some new toys to donate as well.
- Learn to Ski/Snowboard- My kids learned to ski for the first time last year and loved it. This is fun for the whole family to enjoy.
- Make S’mores in your Fire- Making S’mores is always a great quick and easy dessert.
- Have a Snowball Fight- My kids couldn’t wait for the first snowfall to run outside and have a snowball fight. They were out there for hours.
- Take a Snowshoe Hike- This is a beautiful and different way to hike around the mountains.
- Visit Santa Clause- Search out the best place to see Santa for your kids and enjoy the joy on their face as they meet the man himself.
- Take a Christmas Light Tour- One of my favorite traditions is driving around looking at Christmas Lights.
- Make a Snow Angel- Make a family of snow angels in the freshly fallen snow.
- Catch a Snowflake on your tongue- See who can catch the biggest snowflake.
- Cut out Paper Snowflakes- Bring the beauty of snowflakes indoors.
- Decorate Sugar Cookies- My kids love decorating cookies along with putting crazy amounts of sprinkles on them.
- Make Homemade Hot Chocolate- Store bought hot chocolate is good but homemade hot chocolate is even better.
- Have a Christmas Movie Marathon- Find your list of Holiday movies here, and enjoy your cuddle time on the couch.
- Host a Winter Brunch with Friends- What a great way to bring together friends than a brunch while the kids are at school. An excuse to get together is a good one In my book.
- Host a Cookie Exchange- We all want to sample everyone’s great recipes right….
- Take a Horse Drawn Carriage Ride- These can be a bit pricey but worth it on a cold snowy night.
- Visit a Cabin with Friends- Growing up we had a cabin the the woods and I loved going every winter. Find a good priced cabin and invite friends to join you for the weekend.
- Kiss under the Mistletoe- We have a Mistletoe hanging in our house and the kids think it is the greatest thing around. They make sure they purposely walk around it so they don’t get a kiss.
- Bake Homemade Bread and deliver it to your Neighbors- I love the giving that happens around the Holidays so what better way than freshly baked goods delivered to your door.
- Play a card or board game with your Family- Family game nights are the best and its even better when it’s cold and we’re all in our jimmies enjoying each others company.
- Take Pictures in the Snow- I always look back at our pictures and the ones in the snow seem to bring out that kiddish smile in all of us.
- Make Christmas Cards- My kids really enjoy doing crafts, so try making homemade Christmas cards for Grandma or Grandpa this year.
- Wrap Presents- Let your kids participate in wrapping a few presents.
- Read Christmas Stories by the Fire- What better way to read than cozied up by the fire with the ones you love. Find the Ultimate Christmas booklist here.
- Go see the Lights at the Zoo- The Zoo’s seem to make it feel magical every Holiday season as they decorate with lights that look like animals.
- Go Caroling- We just did this last week with another family and my kids loved this. The smiles on the family faces as they opened the door to us singing was worth braving the cold.
- Cut Down a Fresh Christmas Tree- I’ve always had real Christmas Trees and this is one of my favorite traditions of ours.
- Go Through Old Photos- I find on a cold winter night that looking through all those old photos of ours brings a smile and helps me realize all the fun we’ve had over the last few years.
I hope this list keeps you busy during these long winter months. I suggest writing these ideas down on popsicle sticks and placing them in a jar. Have the kids pick out a stick and follow what it says. If you have any more ideas to add, please comment below.
