Now let me tell you what you will find: luxurious textiles like faux fur, creative and unique costume ideas- LOTS of them, and new and creative twists on old classics. You looked forever for an wooly mammoth costume last year but had to disappoint your little one because you couldn’t find it?

With all of these stunning costumes I was inspired to get a little crafty and create some simple accessories that would take the costume to the next level! After lots of thought and deliberation (of course it wasn’t easy, there were SO many awesome choices) I decided to go with one that my little guy has specifically asked to be this Halloween– An Astronaut!
This astronaut is adorable but we thought there were a few more things he needed if he was going to go all the way to space!
First a jet pack. One has to get around once they are on the moon, right? I of course wouldn’t want my little Astronaut to be stranded so we got to work on this simple but really fun little project.
To make this craft you will need:
2 2-Liter Soda Bottles
Silver Spray Paint
Gold Craft Paint
Painters Tape
Twine
Red/Orange/Yellow Tissue Paper
Hot Glue Gun/ Glue
Scissors
- Empty the soda bottles and rinse them out. Once they are dry apply a few thin coats of silver spray paint to them until they are evenly covered.
- Once the paint is dry use painters tape to tape around the bottom 1/4 of the bottle. Use your gold craft paint to paint this area gold.
- I also painted my twine gold to make it look more futuristic, but you can skip this if you are short on time.
- Cut the tissue paper to look like flames. You can download the template we made here. Slide it under the tissue and trace. I layered 6 layers of tissue and cut out 4 flames so that I would get 24 tissue flames without much cutting.
- Use your glue gun to glue the two bottles together and the flames to the opening of the bottle.
- Glue the twine to the back side of the bottles at the top and bottom to make straps to slide your childs arms in. ***If you want the straps to be more secure you can cut small slits in the bottles with a craft knife and tie them on.
Now that our little Astronaut has his jetpack he is good to go, but of course his mom won’t let him go all the way to space without taking lunch! So we needed some space food. I thought that a space inspired bento was just the thing to cure any martian munchies he may get.
The rocket sandwich was cut from a slice of bread and can be made any variety your space kid wants. I garnished it with cheese and a red pepper flame and a couple of pieces of shredded cheese.
I am sure our astronauts want to see all the sights on their trip so I made sure to include some cheese cut stars and a moon and a big sun made out of half of a clementine and a few noodles. And of course, they will need some souvenirs to bring back to Mom, so I included a few moon rocks for dessert! Make sure to grab the recipe for the moon rocks below!
We had such a fun day putting together the project and my little guy had even more fun zooming all over the house in his jet pack! This is only one of many simply stunning costumes to choose from at Pottery Barn.
And since we aren’t into tricks, we will leave you with a treat! Pottery Barn is offering 20% off plus FREE shipping on all of their adorable treat bags by clicking right here!
So with all this creativity floating around, I am wondering which costume is your favorite? Take a look at the costumes here and leave a comment with your favs!
