Stencil + Fabric Canvas with Little House on the Prairie Fabric!

It is super easy to make decor to match any space by covering canvas with fabric and stenciling on the perfect quote.  The Little House on the Prairie® Andover Fabrics Collection is perfect for a little girl’s room!  Don’t miss the AWESOME giveaway at the bottom!

Genius! Fabric on a canvas and stencil a quote for an easy way to decorate to match any space!

I am thrilled to partner with the Little House on the Prairie® Andover Fabrics Collection to bring you this fun craft idea!  You can keep up with the Little House on the Prairie by following them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Since we moved into our new house this summer each and every room has been a work in progress. Although the house is similar in size, it is set up much differently and the layout of each bedroom even is very different.  It makes unpacking and decorating a bit of a never ending game of Tetris.

My daughter’s room has been particularly difficult since the wall space is just so different.  I need some big pieces to add interest but I don’t want to spend big bucks to get pieces that will fill the space up.  After all, she is just a little girl!  Her room and tastes will change so practical it is!

When I saw all of the beautiful fabrics from the new Little House on the Prairie® Andover Fabrics Collection, I immediately knew the perfect project to add to her room.  It would be easy enough for her to help with and absolutely adorable to decorate the space!  The pink background with the aqua accents is the perfect color combo to compliment what we already have in her space, but aren’t all of these fabrics gorgeous?!  I have a super fun fall idea coming up with some of the rest, so stay tuned for that! You can find stores that carry the line near you here!

Little House on the Prairie fabric line from Andover fabrics. Love this for little girls!

You guys are seriously going to LOVE how quick and easy this project is!  It is so simple that it makes the perfect craft to have your kiddos help with or a craft that a teen or tween could easily do on their own from start to finish.  Since the fabric was Little House on the Prairie inspired, I thought it would be perfect to use a Little House on the Prairie quote too!

I, probably like most of you, have the fondest memory of growing up reading the Little House on the Prairie books first with my mom, then on my own!  It is so exciting that they are coming back with all new things like this fabric line just as my daughter is getting old enough to enjoy it too. I went searching and found the perfect words to put up in my precious daughter’s room.  Words that I hope she learns make life much more enjoyable and fun.

What must be done is best done cheerfully.

This comes from the book, On the Banks of Plum Creek.  It just is kinda perfect don’t you think?  There are going to be a lot of things life throws at you, both good and bad, but a cheerful outlook can change everything.

Now let’s get started making the project!

Materials:

  • Fabric sized bigger than your canvas + edges- I used the pink print on the bottom of the stack below from the Little House on the Prairie Line from Andover Fabrics, you can see all the fabrics in the line here.
  • A blank canvas- mine was 12×16
  • Scissors
  • Modge Podge- Matte formula and a paint brush to brush it on
  • Letter Stencils – I cut mine using my Silhouette CAMEO {Free SVG cut file and PDF download at the VERY bottom}
  • Acrylic Paint- I used Americana Decor in Snow white.  Since I am not wearing it, there is no need to use fabric paint.
  • Fine tip paint brush

Perfect craft for kids to help with- fabric on a canvas then stencil on their favorite quote!

Instructions:

  1. Iron any creases out of your fabric, then lay the fabric down flat and place the canvas on top of it.  Measure enough fabric to cover the top and wrap around the sides to the back of the canvas and then cut.Fun craft idea for teen bedroom- fabric on canvas then stencil your favorite quote!
  2. Remove the fabric and use a paint brush to spread out an even coat over the entire top of the canvas.  It shouldn’t be too thick, but also not super thin.  Enough to grab the fabric and soak in just a bit.  This is perfect for kiddos to help with
  3. Next press the fabric down into the Modge Podge making sure it is completely smooth and there are no bubbles.Little House on The Prarie Decor 5w
  4. Now repeat this process over the sides and then on the back.
  5. Bring the corners together and then use additional Modge Podge to cover the top of the fabric and hold down the corners on the back of the canvas. {I left the front of the canvas without a top coat so it would maintain it’s softer texture.Little House on The Prarie Decor 7w
  6. Let the canvas dry.
  7. Create your stencil.  I used my Silhouette Cameo and vinyl to make the stencil. I am including a free SVG if you have a cutting machine and a PDF if you want to print and make your own stencil by hand.  Otherwise, you can get lots of cute letter stencils at any craft store.Perfect easy project for decorating any space!! Kids and teens could even do this craft project themselves!
  8. Once the canvas is dry line up your stencil and paint on the letters.  I gave it two coats using a thin brush following the lines of the letters, but you could also use a spouncer if preferred.
  9. Let it dry, then hang it up!

Isn’t this the perfect combination of absolutely darling, and easy enough to do even on a busy weekend?  My motto is that it doesn’t have to be hard to be great and this project proves it!  If you make one, make sure to snap and pic and tag me on Instagram (@thepinningmama) so I can see it!  And for more fun Little House on the Prairie inspired projects, make sure and check them out on Pinterest!
