There have been many times that I have walked past the Scotch tape section at Office Depot and tried to come up with an excuse to buy every pattern and color. I just couldn’t justify it. THEN, one day Scotch Colors and Patterns Duct Tape asked us to come up with creative projects that included their tape. WHAT?! There’s just something about patterned Scotch tape. How can all this tape not make you smile? It looks like CANDY (my iPhone doesnt do the colors justice)!
Scotch Colors and Patterns Duct Tape Bunting Supplies:
- Scotch Colors and Patterns Duct Tape in the colors of your choice. I used Cherry Red, Sunshine Yellow, Pearl White, and Green Apple
- Sticks
- Jute twine
- Scotch Double Sided Sticky Tape
- Scotch Precision Non-Stick Scissors – these are the best things since sliced bread, you guys! Seriously, you need them in your life.
- The tape was a little wider than I had originally planned, so the solution was simple – fold it in half, hot dog style. Once you have it folded, fold the tape again to the length that you’ll want your pendant. You could measure with a ruler, but I just eyeballed this. Place your jute twine in the crease and then position a piece of double sided sticky tape in between and fold over.
- Now that you have your tape on the twine, you can start cutting to create the flag or pendant. You can assemble the bunting first before you start cutting though. I just preferred to cut as I went.
Now that you have every pendant attached, it’s time to sit back and admire it. I used mine for cupcakes as well as a cake smash cake. There are many other ways to display these though! Just be creative! I thought it would also be cute to have coordinating mason jar bands. The pictures make it look like the tape bubbled, but in person you did not see it. The jar was slightly textured though and the tape still stuck and I received so many compliments!
Mason Jar Supplies
- Mason jars, wine glass, old frappuccino container etc.
- Scotch Colors and Patterns Duct Tape – I used Sunshine Yellow and Paisley Princess
Again, I did not measure for this project. I simply stretched my tape out, laid my mason jar down and wrapped it. Then, with my fancy Scotch Precision Scissors, I cut at the right length. I thought the band needed some more pizzazz which is why I added the Paisley Princess. I LOVE this pattern. It is so girly and fun, but still a classic pattern. Did you think I was done? I’m not!! There are seriously endless ways to use this tape! On the day of my daughter’s actual birthday, I made her a special waffle cake. I served it along with her favorite; almond milk, strawberries and a fun straw. The girl loves her straws – bendy, striped, crazy etc. I decided I’d use the Paisley Princess tape again to create a pendant tag, since I loved the pattern so much. With little effort, I was able to make her morning even more special! To make the straw tag, you can follow the bunting instructions above. I honestly had no idea Scotch made patterned tape! I definitely need to find some & make that bunting though. It’d go perfect on my daughter’s birthday cake in Dec. (Yes, I’m planning already, LOL.)

Oh my gosh, you have to go to Office Depot to check the “candy aisle” out. It’s a little overwhelming, but so amazing! I bet you could find a few adorable colors and patterns that would work with your daughters birthday. Please share pictures of the party!

Adore those straw tags and DEFINITELY using them next time the kids have friends over! Nothing bugs me more than everyone having a 1/2 finished drink and nobody knowing whose it was. This would solve the problem and I could easily use my son’s massive duct tape collection! Great idea!!!
Ashley says
Such a good idea to use as a way for kiddos to know which drink is theirs! Its like the version of a wine charm, but for kids! ha!

Super cool ideas. We used them to cover school books this year and my son wants to make a wallet. I love all the ideas for birthday parties. I love it.
Ashley says
Thanks Samantha! You have some great ideas too. My daughter has doodle pads everywhere and I think I might let her go to town with some tape to customize it. Thanks for the idea!
