I have been getting the itch to start decorating for Christmas for awhile. I knew I was a little crazy to want to do it so early so I have been resisting, BUT now the time has finally come to let loose and go all out with my Christmas decor! I am excited to share my first easy DIY Christmas decorations with you today!
Making these glitter striped JOY letters has been one of the quickest and easiest crafts I have done lately. I love looking at them up on the mantle and seeing the little added pop with the sparkle! I mean I love glitter all the time but it was MADE for Christmas. So let’s get started and get you on your way to having your own beautiful Christmas Decor.
You will need:
Cardboard letters spelling JOY (or any word of your choice!)
1 Bottle Gold Acrylic Paint (I used DecoArt Dazzling Metallics sent to me by DecoArt)
1 Jar Fine Gold Glitter (I used DecoArt Glamour Dust sent to me by DecoArt)
1 Decoupage Medium (I used DecoArt Americana Matte Decoupage sent to me by DecoArt)
1 Roll Painters Tape
1 Paint Brush
- Paint your letters gold with the DecoArt paint. I love this paint because unlike some acrylic paints it is thick and covers well. I was able to use only one coat.
- Let Dry
- Use your painters tape to tape off the area you want to remain unglittered
- Paint the exposed area with your Decoupage
- Cover generously with DecoArt Glitter and let dry.
- Remove the painter’s tape
- Enjoy!
Such a simple and easy craft that makes such a beautiful addition to a Christmas mantle, or vignette. For more Holiday ideas make sure and check out some of my most talented blogging friends! I am so into all things gold right now. I’d love to do these as part of our Christmas decor this year.
Kimber says
Me too Shana! There was a point in my life I never thought I would say that, but oh how the times change!
Emma says
How did you make the 3d cardboard letters? Really nice idea, might make these although they might just end up being 2d and stuck on the wall 😛 x
Kimber says
Thank you so much for the kind words Emma! I actually bought the letters at the craft store. I thought about making my 2-D and cutting out of old boxes, but then I needed those for wrapping haha!
