For the longest time I’ve been wanting to organize my jewelry. I have all of my nice stuff tucked away in little boxes, but my costume jewelry is all over my bathroom – in my linen closet, in my closet on a hanger, in a jewelry bowl on my counter etc. It’s a little ridiculous. A friend of mine recently made her own jewelry organizer by making a frame and putting chicken wire in the back. It was a sign that I needed to get on this organization train. Before I went out to buy the necessary tools, I searched online for jewelry organizers to figure out what exactly I wanted. I have a lot of necklaces and was worried the framed jewelry organizer wouldnt allow enough space for all of my baubles. Then I found this one over at Us Three Birds. She used s-hooks on the inside of the frame so she could hang more! Brilliant!
Here are my steps to DIY’ing a jewelry organizer:
What you need:
- Wooden frame: pre-made or make yourself. Mine was 50% off at Hobby Lobby for $10
- Paint
- Staple Gun
- Chicken (poultry) Wire – Hex 1 inch is what I used
- Cup hooks
- S hooks
Lay your frame on top of the chicken wire and cut the amount that you will need. Then go crazy with your staple gun all around the frame.
I don’t know when this piece of wood broke off, but Gorilla Glue is a girls best friend. Make sure you read the instructions though…when they say it expands 3-4 times and to not use too much, they mean it. Why would I listen to that though?
See what I mean? Live and learn. *Sigh*
Next, paint your frame. I mixed two colors to achieve my color. The frame didn’t even really need to be painted because it already had that rustic Restoration Hardware look that I tend to swoon over. I did it anyways because I like to make things more difficult.
Now you get to screw your cup hooks into the wooden frame. One time I bought a frame to make a bow/headband  holder and didn’t even think about the fact it has to be wooden in order to screw cup hooks into. Well, I got news for ya – it does. Man, was I bummed!

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! You have yourself an easy jewelry organizer! I guess we can call this a PIN WIN!
I didn’t put all my jewelry up quite yet, but I am loving the organizer so far! I think I might add some hooks to the side as well. In the before picture, see the mesh holder that I have stuff hanging on? That’s a mesh paper holder from Target. I actually really like using that so I’ll prb put extra earrings and what nots on it because I can’t part ways with it…yet.

This is a great idea. I went thrifting and found what was meant to be a mans tie rack that rotates with batteries. I mounted that to the wall and use it for all my necklaces. It makes it so much easier. I think this would be a great way to organize my earrings.

This is too funny. I just used the identical frame and made a jewelry holder this past week for my daughter.I painted it pretty much the same color as yours also.
What I did differently is that I put in nails across the top and bottom for necklaces (top) and bracelets (bottom). I also put some nails on the side for earrings (larger hoops and danglies mostly). Works great.

That is so weird!!! You must have really good taste. 😉 That’s a good idea to use nails. I’m definitely going to add some hooks to the side bc I need more room for necklaces.

I have been wanting to make one! My costume jewelry is a mess! Haha. I wonder what adventure it would be to try and find these in Japan! Haha

That would be one for the books! Maybe Costco would have chicken wire. Haha
