This homemade Greek Seasoning is a winner all around. It is crazy delicious for everyday, and also Whole30 compliant, Paleo, gluten free and dairy free, which makes it perfect to use for special diets!
I might have said this before on my homemade Fajita Seasoning or Whole30 Ranch Seasoning posts, but I have to say it again. Although we don’t eat on a specific diet regularly, of all the things I prepped, ate, modified and tried while doing the Whole30 food challenge, the homemade seasonings were my favorite. Since Greek seasoning is a staple in my kitchen but filled with many extras that were not okay while following the diet, I had to reverse engineer a bit and create something that I could use in its place. It won our hearts (via our stomachs) for good!
My homemade Greek seasoning recipe ended up having 13 ingredients and is now a staple in our home and used often even long after our Whole30 days are over! There are quite a few seasonings in this mix, but the flavor that comes out is unique and bold in the best way. As a bonus, it is not only much healthier to make from scratch, but also much more affordable, especially when you start to use it as much as we have.
Ways to Use Homemade Greek Seasoning
- As a dry rub on chicken
- Mixed with mayo, greek yogurt or olive oil as a marinade for meat
- Drizzle veggies with olive oil and then sprinkle with seasoning
- To flavor chicken salad (recipe coming soon!)
- As a dip- Mix 1 tablespoon of mix with one cup of mayo (homemade if on Whole30)
- To season french fries or potato chips – Either fresh out of the frier or made in the oven
- On corn on the cob (especially with butter, but that is not Whole30!)
- Mixed with a little olive oil and lemon to dress a salad
- Mixed with red wine vinegar and olive oil for a more traditional style greek vinaigrette
There are so many more ways! The seasoning is so delicious, and maybe a little addicting, I would find some very inventive ways to incorporate it into our meals. Even after we finished Whole30 we continued to make and use homemade seasonings. We figured we liked the taste even better than what we had bought, plus it was healthier and less expensive. The only commitment is the few extra minutes it takes to mix together.
How to Make Homemade Greek Seasoning
Making your greek seasoning is very simple, it just takes a few minutes to measure all of the spices in the mix. Collect them all and measure them into a small/medium sized bowl. Mix to combine the spices evenly and then pour in a pint sized mason jar or other air tight container. Give the container a shake to remix everything before each use.
That is all there is to it, and now you have a stash on hand to season anything (or everything) around the kitchen. This recipe also doubles/triples/quadruples well to make larger batches. Just remember that since the seasonings are different sizes and weights it will settle, so give it a mix each time you use it so that everything is evenly distributed.
If you have a favorite way you use this seasoning I would love to hear it in the comments! Reader comments make my day!

Thank you for compiling this incredible seasoning recipe. I absolutely love Greek chicken and anything with the Greek seasoning flavor. Unfortunately somehow over the years, I developed a severe allergy to rosemary and have been unable to order it in a restaurant. Now, having this recipe, I can omit it and still enjoy! Thank you!

Can’t wait to try this! F.Y.I. you left off the cinnamon in your top list (with the pictures) and then you left off the paprika in the recipe above.
I assume it is 1 tsp of each which makes 14 items.
We love Greek recipes so, thanks again!

Hi Patti- Thank you so much for catching this for me! I have three very small kids and do most of my posts at night when I am very tired so things like this happen more than I like. I appreciate you lending a hand so I can fix it! Hope you really love it!!

I’ve been to 3 grocery stores and searched Amazon and cannot find dried dill. Please explain to me what this is? So confused lol thanks!

Hi Sheila- I am so sorry it has been difficult to find! I am so excited to introduce you to it though because it is SO good! I actually got mine at Walmart. It is pretty common and you should be able to find it at most grocery stores or super stores. You will want DRIED DILL WEED. It is green and should look like roughly 1/4 in very fine strings if that makes sense. Here is a link where you can get it on amazon, if that helps you see it or understand what it is better! Dill Weed on amazon.

How would you go about marinating chicken with Greek yogurt? Process and how much of your seasoning mix to Greek yogurt? Very excited to make this for date night tonight. Thank you!!
Kimber says
To be honest, I am not much of a measurer. I am usually a throw in a little of this and a little of that kind of girl. I will do my best though! I would probably use about 1 cup of greek yogurt and 1 Tbsp of seasoning for 3 chicken breasts. Just mix the seasoning into the yogurt and then place the chicken and yogurt mixture all in a ziplock back and put in the fridge for a few hours to over night. Then just take it out and grill or bake as normal.

Hello! The recipe calls for cinnamon but I noticed paprika was pictured in the ingredients but not listed where as cinnamon was listed but not pictured. Is there both cinnamon and paprika? Or no paprika and just cinnamon?
I look forward to jazzing up my chicken salad with this!

THe recipe is correct. I made an error on the image and hope to fix it tonight. Sorry about that!

This looks so great! I’m confused by one of the comments – so do you add paprika? How much? Maybe you could make the adjustment to the official recipe when you get a chance? Thank you!
Kimber says
Sorry! I am going to try to fix the image tonight. The recipe is correct. I usually do the images and piece my posts together late at night after the kids go to bed so sometimes I make sleep deprived mistakes, and this time I wrote the wrong ingredient. Apologies!

Sounds good. Thank you.

I was hoping someone would have already asked this question…………….How would you turn this into a Greek salad dressing?
Kimber says
I originally made this to use to season chicken and veggies for grilling, but it can totally be the base for a dressing too! I have mixed it into homemade mayo for a dip, you could also do this and then thin it out with oil, coconut milk, or water to make a creamy dressing. To make a vinaigrette I would probably mix about 1 tbsp seasoning with 1 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup red wine vinegar and then start from there and make adjustments to taste. I wish I had exact measurements for you but I am sitting on a plane right now, sorry!
