Let me tell you a story of how I ended up loving my new electric toothbrush: Somehow every time I have a baby, I end up having a root canal. I have always had good oral health. Sure I have had a cavity here or there, but I wasn’t one of those people who had big dental things going on… heck! I never even had braces! Until I had a baby.
Then when my first was about 3 months old I was up for a middle of the night feeding when a pain so intense struck I didn’t even know what was happening. All I knew was that 6 hours until the dentist opened was TOO long! Many hours and pleading phone calls later I had an appointment with a dentist that came in from his vacation after hours to see me (yes I begged that much!) And it was as he had expected… (dun, dun dun) a root canal was needed!
Fast forward two and a half years and one kid later. Same story, same result. I visited my dentist with some serious tooth pain and it was indeed, another root canal. I explained my theory to my dentist that 1 baby = 1 root canal. He assured me that there was no conclusive evidence to support that, but I am not sure I am buying it! I kinda think those precious little angels suck all the nutrients right out of my body, starting with my teeth!
Whether I have made a medical break through or not, it had become crystal clear that I needed a change when it came to oral health. If I am already brushing and flossing what can I do to really be more effective cleaning my teeth?
Enter the Philips Sonicare PowerUp. I have always been a manual brush user. Sure those fancy brushes look nice, but the price tag has always left me hesitant to make the leap. When I found out that I could get the powerful clean of a Philips Sonicare in an affordable battery operated option, I was in! Around $20 and a trip to Walmart later, I was the proud owner of a brand new orange Philips Sonicare PowerUp toothbrush. You can see more about my shopping trip here!
I took my new orange beauty home and was so excited to try it out! I put the batteries in and turned it on. It was really powerful! I wasn’t sure if the battery operated version would leave me wanting more and better, so i was really happy with how it worked. The best part came when I started brushing my teeth. It seems almost effortless compared to brushing with a regular toothbrush. All I did was guide it and the hard part was done for me! They say “A month’s worth of brush strokes in a day,” I’d totally agree! Philips shares a great video that puts this all in perspective about the evolution of the toothbrush on their Facebook page. You can see it here! When I finished up, my teeth felt dentist clean. I know I can’t be the only one who loves how smooth your teeth feel after you leave the dentist! That was exactly the feeling of satisfaction I had after I brushed with my new Sonicare PowerUp! Life was good!
Two weeks later I am still loving my new toothbrush and my teeth feel cleaner and healthier than ever. I am so glad I made the switch and lucky for me they sell replacement heads so that I can continue to brush this way without having to buy new units. Keep up with Philips Sonicare news by following them on Facebook and Twitter!
The good news for YOU is that we are giving away a Sonicare PowerUp Toothbrush to one lucky reader!

Brush 2x’s a day and floss at night. My dentist just told me that I am scrubbing too hard with my brush and suggested getting an electric tooth brush so it was so great to read your review on this! Thank you!

My dentist says that studies say they they are unrelated but his wife had the same issue too! I think they have to go hand in hand!
Kathe says
Oh man! Every since I had a tooth issue while working a trade show in Vegas (way to ruin a trip to Vegas tooth!) my cleaning schedule is brush good, brush often but, I’d love a power toothbrush to do it with 😉

I think you’re theory is right! I had a friend who said that during her pregnancy, she got TONS of cavities…and it was in part because she was so nauseous, she couldn’t eat, so her body pulled nutrients from other areas (including her teeth and hair) to provide for the baby. Anyway, glad to hear your new sonicare toothbrush has come to the rescue! I would love to incorporate one of these into my tooth care!

My dentist said studies say they aren’t related but his wife had the same problem too! I think they need to study a little bit more!
